Allsup Outlines Concerns for Insurers With Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007

Belleville, Ill. – March 31, 2008 – There are new requirements and stiffer penalties for insurers who don’t comply with Medicare Secondary Payer laws, and Allsup is doing its part to help explain the impact for its commercial customers.

The Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007 carries new stipulations affecting liability insurance (including self insurance), no-fault insurance and workers’ compensation insurance plans.

Beginning in mid-2009, insurers must determine the Medicare beneficiary status on all their claims and report those involving Medicare beneficiaries to the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“Insurers need to determine how they will comply with the law in a manner that is going to provide less hassle for them and get results they can count on,” said Rob Sokol, director of commercial sales at Allsup. “Allsup has the experience, the expertise and the technological capabilities to ensure the process is accurate and handled properly and in compliance with the new law.”

Mr. Sokol pointed out that there is a $1,000 penalty for each day an insurer not in compliance. Allsup can help insurers with the process of Medicare verification, along with other Medicare related services.
